AEROPLANE MONTHLY APRIL 2008 The first in a new series by this publisher, whose condensed Second World War histories of RAF fighter units have been reviewed in previous issues. This small book packs a lot of gen on one of the Spitfire'srather less-well-covered marks into its modest number of pages. A brief outline history is followed by a more comprehensive operational history of Nos 41 and 91 Sqns, the two RAF units that operated the type in anger. Much of the "vital statistocs" sort of information, such as technical data, production deleiveries, bases, and operational records, claims and losses, is provided in clearly-prensented tabular form. The balck-and-white photograhs are compleneted by three pages of colour artwork. A little more careful editing might have reduced the number of literals, but nevertheless, it cannot be disputed that the value for money is there. Philipp JARRETT |
